After completing my Internal Medicine Residency in 2010 in Greensboro North Carolina, I began working as a Hospitalist where I became fascinated by Utilization Management issues and the concept of criteria being used to determine inpatient vs. outpatient status. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to begin part-time work as a Remote Physician Advisor reviewing medical cases remotely for medical necessity. I continued doing this along with my full-time Hospitalist work while relocating from North Carolina to Maryland for my wife's employment.
Maryland presents unique challenges with its per diem model and everything that goes along with capitated payment. With my background conducting Peer to Peers (P2Ps) and reviewing cases remotely, I was able to carve out a niche for myself reviewing cases for medical necessity and conducting P2Ps for hospitals in Maryland and the District of Columbia. With a focus specifically on appropriate level of care and denials I have been able to leverage my experience to make substantial gains for the hospitals I cover while allowing the providers at the bedside as well as hospital leadership to focus on patient care. I now practice as a Physician Advisor full-time reviewing cases for medical necessity, conducting P2Ps, and providing expert witness testimony for litigation in matters regarding medical necessity.
I created Maryland Physician Advisors, LLC, to meet the specific needs for hospitals Maryland and the District of Columbia looking for weekend coverage, as well as denials management with a focus on P2Ps and medical necessity reviews. Using only providers based in Maryland with knowledge and expertise regarding the unique challenges facing hospitals in our state, we can manage your hospital's denials while allowing you to focus on what's important, quality patient care.
